Beijing DEJ and DE-NIGHT BATTLESTAR Party
The term VJ, or visual jockey, often conjures images of night clubs, rave music and dancing and many visual performance artists showcase their work in a nightlife setting. But the Beijing Digital Entertainment Jam (DEJ), founded by Professor Ding Zhaochen, that will be hosted starting July 22 at the BIFT (Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology) is not about club music and cheap thrills. Rather, this collaboration of the most talented VJs from Europe and China is an effort to inspire and teach college students about the art of visual performance. Held at the Cultural & Creative base in BIFT, a series of long and short-term workshops are designed to foster interest among promising students in this cutting edge art form.
The Events:
- History of VJing: Take a look at the history of VJing in Europe in the 20th century in this tutorial aimed at those with an interest in graphic and visual design.
When: Jul 27th, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
- Digital Music and Their Pics: Participants will learn about the history of VJ artistry in Europe, and how it pertains to the growing scene in China.

Taught by VJs Thomas Kronlachner and Sito Schwarzenberger
- The Technique of “4 in 1″ VJing: Learn how to put visuals to music in this tutorial that teaches the basics of VJ artistry.

Led by European VJ artists Gerald Herlbauer, Tasso Treis
- Fusion Now!: Participants will be schooled in the basics of VJing, using European VJ techniques and software.
When: Jul 28th, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
- Karaoke 2.0: Attendees will create interactive karaoke pieces in which the lyrics will animate according to the way they sing as well as the background music.

- Smart Desk Design: Students will combine Beijing’s culture, history, geography and cultural connotations as elements for the creation.

- NOKIA Pervasive Play Workshop: The participants will conceive/produce a tech-based reality games.
